A Chicago dogs go to school. That's right! And they go there for Inseparare. Yes, because if it is true as it is true that the dog has always been man's best friend, it seems that it is also the dog for him best teacher of reading.

And they demonstrate it well 10 schools of the American city that have received visits from some in recent years “academic” puppies to motivate the most “at risk” children and bring them closer to books.

The non-profit association SitStayRead organizes real teams of volunteers to accompany "visiting dogs" in those schools. Here the children they read in the company of new furry friends for one hour.

According to the give, from the moment this innovative program took hold, in 2003, in the classes where this "experiment" took place students became more fluent in reading by 50% more than in non-participating classrooms.

The methods of the program vary according to the grade of the class: in fourth grade, for example, dogs listen to real and proper poetry or animal stories. At the end of the year, the school hosts some sort of celebration and gives the students one backpack full of readings for the summer. All this with one fundamental purpose: to help stimulate the child's desire to learn and develop in him a new love for reading.

“Reading to a dog increases confidence and generates enthusiasm for reading,” they report from SitStayRead. “These trained dogs transform reading for a child from an abstract concept to a real life experience. The children read about dogs, while they see a dog and touch a dog. An experience that leads to true and lasting learning ".

To help especially the most needy children, SitStayRead provides volunteering in schools where at least 90% of the members are low-income, with children below 60% in their reading level.

Commendable initiative, don't you think? After all, it has always been that between dogs and children it can be a magical and indissoluble bond, which goes far beyond mere affection. Not only at home, therefore, or in hospitals for the pet-therapy: even at school, dogs can be a valuable help!
