Don't store avocado like this: it's dangerous

Traumatized, isolated and increasingly suffering. Are the Syrian children who are dying under the bombs because undernourished and forced to sleep in the cold, in an escalation of violence that does not tend to diminish.

Exhausted by the cold, without a home and without that childhood that should be of smiles and games. According to the United Nations they are more than 800 thousand Syrians (80% of which are women and children) who have had to leave everything because of the civil war that has been going on for nine long years. And it is the little ones who pay the consequences. Having become refugees, they live in the cold in the refugee camps of Idlib and other neighboring areas.

Many families have been forced to flee on foot in the dead of winter, with night temperatures reaching -10 degrees. The United Nations World Food Program (WFP) continues to provide emergency food assistance to people in need in northwestern Syria, but distribution is often cut short due to mounting hostility. In the past month, eight children have died in the camp Rukban because of the cold and malnutrition.

A heartbreaking story is that of Samah, 33 years old, who saw her one month old baby die in her arms on a cold night.
“It was one of those dark, cold nights and my Yasmeen was sleeping in my arms. There shouldn't be anywhere warmer than my chest, but it was cold there too. I don't know how I fell asleep, but when I woke up at dawn I felt a coldness in my hands ”.

"We are deeply concerned about the fate of thousands of families with children who have had to flee their homes in freezing winter temperatures in search of safety in already overcrowded camps," said Muhannad Hadi, WFP regional director, as stated on the program website. of the United Nations.

In Syria, therefore, civilians continue to pay the price for the ongoing conflict. Air strikes and armed clashes in northwestern Syria with heavy bombing are leading to a real massacre. In the last week alone, more than 140 thousand people have been displaced. But those who flee can only take refuge in a refugee camp and often tents are not enough for everyone. So the children sleep in the cold and there are many who do not make it.

Also the World Health Organization he explains:
“Healthcare facilities are barely functioning and have very little staff or medical supplies. There are no generators or fuel to provide even the slightest heat to relieve the bitter cold. Winter diseases associated with overcrowding and indoor air pollution lead to acute respiratory infections ”.

Second l’UNHCR, children and young people are suffering immensely, both physically and psychologically. Children are injured or killed by snipers, rockets, missiles and falling debris. They suffer conflict, destruction and violence. "The psychological effects of such horrific experiences can be far-reaching, affecting their well-being, sleep, language and social skills," writes the humanitarian organization.
