A playground without swings is something incomplete and unthinkable. Yet, for 37 long years, the equipped areas of Mantua have done without it. But now they return and the Lombard city becomes a little more child-friendly
Don't store avocado like this: it's dangerous
Until now, not everyone knew that swings had been banned in Mantua's public parks for almost forty years! It was in fact on 8 July 1985 when the mayor Gianni Usvardi removed them and prohibited new installations throughout the urban area for "safety reasons".
His was more than anything else, it is said, a response to a series of incidents that involved some children at that time. Could she have done it differently? Of course yes ... And instead, since then the parks and public gardens in Mantua have not seen even a rocking game anymore, for the sake of fun for the little ones.
But now, after almost 4 entire decades, a provision by the mayor Mattia Palazzi has restored the right to swing in the parks and public gardens of the city to the children of Mantua:
THE PROHIBITION ON SWINGING IS REMOVED: A SMALL CHANGE THAT WILL MAKE MANY CHILDREN HAPPY In any garden or playground ...

Yesterday I decided to make an ordinance to remove the 1985 ban. Starting with the next interventions that we are planning, we will return to putting swings in the city play areas. Since then, safety in the production of public games for children has certainly increased and if parents do their part in following the children while they use the games, I don't see why to continue to ban them, reads the Palazzi post.
Well, actually it was just a sui generis prohibition that was only going to deprive the children of one of the funniest things in a playground. The swing is, in fact, the great protagonist of outdoor games for children (and not only). Who hasn't enjoyed swinging and trying to get higher and higher? Swings have great benefits: they help overcome limits and fears, increase motor capacity, promote the development of balance, improve coordination and, taking turns for those who are on top and those who push, can promote teamwork.
In short, welcome back swings to Mantua!
