Sun creams, do not buy them if you read this ingredient on the label: it is dangerous

Öko-Test does not recommend using creams where octocrylene is present. This can in fact form benzophenone, a carcinogen

Don't store avocado like this: it's dangerous

According to German experts who have recently conducted a test on sun creams, when we buy protection we should be careful that it does not contain octocrylene, a UV filter that can form a dangerous substance.

Using a sunscreen is very important not only to avoid sunburn but also to prevent skin cancer. Some sun creams, however, as a recent test conducted by the German magazine Öko-Test also highlighted, may contain problematic substances (Read also: Sun creams, which are the best and worst brands. Garnier Ambre Solaire and Piz Buin "insufficient") .

Among these is theoctocrylene, a filter that, over time, can form benzofenone, a decomposition product considered mutagenic, carcinogenic and endocrine disruptor (Read also: Beware of this ingredient present in sun creams. Over time it transforms and can become dangerous)

We said that octocrylene can form benzophenone but how often does this happen? The test shows that in all seven products in which octocrylene was present in the composition, benzophenone was actually also found.

Levels of this substance were low in most sunscreens, however, as the magazine reads:

there is no guarantee this will last. Because over time, the benzophenone content in sunscreen can increase dramatically

The EU Scientific Advisory Committee (SCCS) evaluates benzophenone present in products containing octocrylene as a "dangerous impurity" that should be observed and not exceed the "trace range". At the same time, however, the SCCS still believes that octocrylene is safe in the maximum quantities allowed in sunscreens.

However, as there are indications of possible harmful effects of this substance backed by laboratory tests, Öko-Test does not recommend using creams where octocrylene is present as a precaution. So let's pay attention to the solar we want to buy, carefully reading the INCI.
