Sunscreen for children: Bilboa the worst in the test, contains phenoxyethanol and possible endocrine disruptors

Children's sunscreen test vanishes Bilboa product which contains controversial filters, endocrine disruptors and phenoxyethanol

Don't store avocado like this: it's dangerous

In summer, sunscreens are indispensable, even more so if we are talking about children. But not all products on the market are the same. A new test compared 8 baby sun creams to figure out which ones are the best based on their composition.

After conducting a test on sunscreen for adults, the magazine Il Salvagente now wanted to analyze 8 solar products for the little ones, all with protection factor 50+. (Read also:
Sunscreen with 50 protection: full of filters and controversial substances. Clinians, Bilboa and Leocrema the worst in the test).

These are the following products sold in supermarkets, discount stores, pharmacies, children's stores and online:

  • ANGSTROM PROTECT CHILDREN PROTECTION 50+
  • BILBOA KIDS PROTECTED AND HAPPY SUN MILK SPF 50+
  • BIONIKE DEFENCE SUN BABY&KID LATTE FLUIDO SPF 50+
  • CHICCO SUN CREAM SPF 50+
  • COOP IOCOOP SENSITIVE SKIN CHILDREN SUN MILK 50+
  • LIDL CIEN SUN SUN CREAM FOR CHILDREN FP 50+
  • MUSTELA SUN MILK VERY HIGH PROTECTION 50+
  • OMIA CHILDREN SUN MILK FACE BODY SPF 50+

Within these sunscreens, controversial chemical filters have been sought, such as octocrylene and homosalate, which the FDA has detected in the blood even after a single application of products that contain them. (Also read: Sunscreens, dangerous chemicals stay in blood for a long time. New FDA study)

Filters are not the only thing to consider, however, sunscreens in some cases contain other substances that can act as endocrine disruptors but also potentially allergenic perfumes (a problem that mostly concerns sunscreen for adults since the formulations for children are more delicate), Peg and other unwelcome ingredients.

The results

A solar was "rejected" from the test. It's about the cream Bilbao which, according to the journal's analysis, contains several controversial ingredients including probable endocrine disruptors, Peg and phenoxyethanol.

More specifically, in this solar panel the presence of:

  • Octocrylene, homosalate, cyclopentasiloxane, BHT (probable endocrine disruptors)
  • Peg-100 Stearate
  • Phenoxyethanol
  • EDTA
  • hydroxyacetophenone

- endocrine disruptors they are always of particular concern, but even more so if they end up on the skin of children. These are substances that can negatively interact with reproduction and interfere with puberty and metabolism.

Also of the phenoxyethanol there has been a lot of talk in baby products. It is a preservative considered dangerous for development, especially up to 3 years of life. It can also be found in nappy changing wipes and moisturizers. (Read also: These baby products still contain phenoxyethanol. Even Lidl wipes and nivea creams).

We just have to pay particular attention to the Inci of the baby sunscreens we buy. We have recommended 5. (Read also: Sun creams for children: 5 creams with good inci that spread well without the "gheisha effect").
