The principal of a middle school of Settimo Milanese issued a circular with gods really special tasks for his students in view of the long summer holidays. No notebooks or textbooks but lots of rest and fun, with particular attention to the environment.

La circular by Andrea Bortolotti, dean ofComprehensive Institute of Settimo Milanese and professor of history and philosophy at the Liceo Scientifico "Vittorio Veneto" in Milan, it has gone viral and the reason is very simple: it differs greatly from the usual school circulars by offering students summer tasks outside the box.

The 7-point document gives excellent ideas to young people by advising them to:

    • have fun and rest
    • cultivate new friendships
    • travel (if possible)
    • listen to music, watch movies, read books or comics, and talk to friends
    • keep a diary and write
    • cleaning a beach, a lawn or a wood (in desperate cases it is also good to start from your room!)
    • forget your cell phone somewhere (or rather in the ice bucket!).

In a witty but very clear way, the headmaster managed to get through a series of messages important to his kids. Summer is the perfect opportunity to recharge by doing activities that give satisfaction and regain energy and enthusiasm after a long school year. It is also an opportunity to disconnect a little from technology, rediscovering contact with one's friends.

However, we must not forget about do something for the environment, then it is advisable to give your own small but valuable contribution cleaning a beach or lawn.

“These tasks will not be evaluated. They will evaluate you ”concludes the teacher who hopes that her advice will be followed“ in the time of vacation that is not that of school ”.

The document, which later went viral, was disseminated by a user on the Facebook group “Enough homework!”, Who however wonders if the students really won't have other more traditional summer tasks to do.

Years ago, similar news went viral. The primary school teacher Paolo Limonta he had given special tasks for the Easter holidays: read a book, watch at least one movie, remember a nice episode to tell in class and be happy!

Teachers outside the box and "forward" or visionaries?

The debate on what kids should do in their free time during the holidays remains open between those who believe it is important that they study in the summer and those who believe that this is the most suitable time to devote themselves to other activities, not necessarily of lesser importance. : practice your hobbies, be with friends and, why not, help out to make the world a little cleaner!
