Smartwatch for children "Safe Kid One". It is the first time that technological gadgets like these, aimed at children, have received a recall from the European Commission. The fear is that of a serious (and dangerous) invasion of privacy.

The devices in question, produced by the German company Enox, have been recalled as there is a real risk that they could reveal confidential information concerning children, in particular their position but also other personal details.

Of course, all this would only be possible for malicious hackers able to send commands to smartwatches, for example being able to communicate with the child who owns it or to locate its position thanks to GPS. Nor would it be too difficult for an experienced person to retrieve the serial number, location history and phone numbers used by the device.

The European Commission therefore considered them unsafe and ordered their recall from all member countries, classifying them as "serious" the type of alert.

Ole Anton Bieltvedt, founder of the Enox company that makes them, told the BBC that the smartwatch passed German tests last year. He added, however, that that version is no longer on the market.

It is the first time that such a recall has been ordered, but for some time there has been a more general discussion on the safety of these devices in the hands of children. There was even a study, commissioned by the Norwegian Consumer Counsil (Norwegian Consumers' Association) and carried out thanks to Mnemonic (IT security company), which brought out some of the same problems.

According to the research, these smartwatches, which should be used by parents to always monitor their children, are far from safe. The risk is precisely that of intrusion by strangers. In fact, experts have found bugs in the software or flaws in the system, mainly related to the fact that it is necessary to download an app in order to use them.

We pay more attention than ever to what we put in our children's hands (or wrists!). If you have purchased these devices by chance, return them to the point of sale immediately.
