Composed of a gelatinous membrane, the biodegradable bottle it can be safely swallowed or thrown away. It derives, in fact, from edible algae subjected to a spherification process, a culinary technique that allows you to create spheres that enclose a liquid.

Inspired by the composition of egg yolks, which feature a thin membrane to keep the liquid contents firm, Ooho features a double layer. In practice, the water is safely contained within a further gelatinous layer.

Not exactly a treat for the palate, as the bottle is made up of brown algae and calcium chloride, but it is still entirely edible. Sure, the shape isn't that of a classic bottle, but Ooho would help prevent millions of plastic bottles from ending up in landfills every year.

And it would help consumers to lower the production of waste, providing a simple and inexpensive alternative to plastic packaging. The designers hope to be able to reach commercial distribution. Since Ooho has a double layer, labels can be placed between them without compromising the quality of the water inside.

The "bottles" can vary in size, controlled by the packaging process when the water is frozen. So simple that one wonders when we will really be able to find it in supermarkets.
