The Norwegian government has just released details of the plan to ban fur farming by 2025. It really will!

The law, presented thanks to an agreement reached in 2018 that we had already told you about, will make it illegal after 2025 to own animals for the purpose of killing them "for the sale or any other use of their fur".

Farmers will be offered financial compensation to dismantle their farms. Obviously, the protests were resounding and the compensation was defined as a "historic betrayal" by those who built a decades-long business with the death of the animals.

"We are offered a few crowns, which is far from compensating for the planned dismantling of our farms," Guri Wormdahl, spokesman for the Norges Pelsdyralslag fur producer organization, told AFP. "The way it was designed will lead us directly to bankruptcy."

The government has estimated that it will have to pay farmers around 500 million crowns (52 million euros) in compensation for the dismantling or conversion of their businesses.

The fur manufacturing industry employs around 500 people and has an annual turnover of 300 million crowns. Norway accounts for approximately one percent of global mink fur production and between two and three percent of fox fur production.

These are the data. But to them is added the horror that is consumed in these warehouses, in which a cruel and timeless business is consumed. As documented, among the latest investigations, by Report, which found foxes so fat (3 times their ideal weight) that they can barely get up and move around in their very narrow cages, cannibalism among animals due to overcrowding, eye infections and to the skin of animals.
