The box for posting suggested by the Montessori method is available for sale in different versions, even on the web, and its use is generally indicated for children up to the age of 3.
As part of theplayful learning we can propose to children, to our family or to the class we teach about build together one or more boxes to post as new educational toys which thanks to do-it-yourself become almost at no cost.
The box for posting is one of the classic materials of the Montessori method. The child is simply asked to insert an object into the opening corresponding to its shape which is at the top of the box.
From 8 or 9 months onwards the children should be able to start using the box for posting. This activity trains hand-eye coordination and makes children understand the permanence of objects: even if an object is no longer in front of our eyes, it does not mean that it no longer exists, as he points out Montessori for us.
You can make the box for posting starting from one carton box, for example a shoe box, or with del plywood if you are skilled in DIY jobs.
First you will have to choose objects that the child will have to place in one or more boxes. It would be better to make a small box for each object.
As for the items to be placed in the box, you can take into consideration the balls, cubi and cylinders or other objects of simple shapes that may already be present among your children's toys (think, for example, of what we could find in the construction bucket).
The box for mailing will essentially have to have due aperture: an opening at the top, for example on the lid, where the child will insert the object and which will follow its shape, and a side opening that allows the pocketed object to come out of the box.

If you will use a ball as an object to post, you will be facilitated in obtaining the upper opening by using a glass to follow the outline with the pencil or a compass with which to draw a circle of the right size.

Choose items to post that are the right size for your children and that they are easy to grasp and not dangerous (not so small that they can be swallowed).
