Since the 70s, the surface of Lake Urmia has been reduced by over XNUMX%. In the past it represented one of the largest lakes in the Middle East and one of the largest salt lakes in the world.
What's going on? Lake Urmia has been in danger for some time due to the construction of dams and drought. It is part of the Unesco Biosphere Reserves but evidently the world is not doing enough to protect it.
Its waters have now turned pink because the drought has favored the spread of an alga, the Dunaliella. This lake is not home to fish because it is too salty but for a long time it was an important reserve for the flamingos and more generally for migratory birds.
The negative effects of drought and climate changes they are hitting a lake with a very delicate ecosystem. Losing such an ecosystem is a very serious event for our planet.

What we can do is simply remain and admire its wonderful waters that have turned pink and remember that unfortunately the environmental impact of human activities is destroying real natural paradises that can never be restored.

For example, flamingos have disappeared from the shores of the lake because its waters have become too salty in recent years. The local government is now looking for a solution to the problem. Lake Urmia needs to be protected otherwise it risks disappearing completely.
