It is not alone red, the lava of the volcanoes it can also be blu. Photoshop has nothing to do with it. It is Nature that once again gives the show. The Indonesian volcano of Ijen crater it boasts a surreal color, which illuminates the night with blue.
To make this particular color the lava is, in a sense, a natural dye. Indeed, the Indonesian mountain contains large quantities of pure sulfur, which when burning emits an icy violet color. And this is how the rocky slopes of the volcano become highly inferno toxic, with temperatures reaching 115 ° C.
Despite the dangers, the photographer Olivier Grunewald immortalized the beauty of this hell of blue fire, in the company of a group of miners who work hard on the crater of the volcano every night, risking their lives due to the harmful gases emitted. The miners carry between 80 and 100 pounds of sulfur pieces per trip.
From the work of the photographer in collaboration with Régis Etienne, president of the Geneva Volcanology Society is born new documentary, released earlier this month.
To leave you speechless.
