This is a very fun (and educational) activity for children, which will allow you to observe many birds on your balcony, helping the birds to find something to eat.

Let's see how to make a bird feeder with things you may already have at home by recycling a cardboard tube.

Necessary

  • Roll of toilet paper or paper towel

  • Nuts and seeds: sunflower seeds, hemp seeds, chopped corn, unsalted shelled peanuts, raisins (see below "Each species has its own food")
  • Homemade peanut butter (do not use packaged products, they may contain harmful ingredients such as salt, sugar and xylitol, see “warnings” below).

Method

  • Brush the cardboard tube with peanut butter or tahini and roll it onto a plate with the chopped mixed seeds.
  • Thread the wire into the tube and attach it in a place where the birds will feel safer.

Warnings

Some children may be allergic to nuts or seeds, be careful!


Don't use packaged peanut butter, some peanut butters contain xylitol, which can cause liver failure and be potentially fatal to dogs.

Farinaceous are not considered the ideal food for birds. Seeds rich in "good" fats are always the preferred diet.
