Un igloo built with milk cartons, from which ice bricks were made. It was built by two young New Zealand boys, Kathleen Starrie and her engineer boyfriend Daniel Gray, during their Christmas holidays in Canada, in Edmonton, simply to "kill time". Yet the final result, obtained with a total of 150 hours of assembly and 500 blocks of ice, it's spectacular.

The adventure begins with an idea from Brigid Burton, Kathleen's mother, who suggested that the couple try their hand at building a real igloo in the backyard, worried that the two might get bored due to temperatures close to 31 degrees below zero that forced them into the house. “I wanted to find a way to keep Daniel busy and I knew I had to come up with something that was his food!” Says Brigid.

The preparations actually began months earlier, anticipating the couple's visit. It took some time to collect and store hundreds of milk cartons that, once filled with water and dye, were used to create the ice blocks of different colors. “Once I started building, I realized that I absolutely had to finish it, because you can't leave something like this unfinished. I had to do some calculations, especially to get an estimate of the number of blocks needed, precisely due to the fact that it had to be spherical ", added Daniel, who used a mixture of snow and of water ideal for gripping the ice.

“Although we covered ourselves properly, we could only work for a maximum of 2 hours outside. Then we were forced to return to the house to warm up “, concludes the boy, who was jokingly threatened with having to go to sleep inside. After completing the work, together with the help of parents and a neighbor, ligloo arcobaleno it was so visually striking that it immediately attracted the attention of local media. Especially for its effect at night, when the bricks light up giving life to one show of lights and colors unusual and captivating.
