Harpies are among the largest eagles on our planet: although they weigh a maximum of ten kilos, their height can reach two meters, while the wingspan ranges from two to four meters.

Harpy eagles are carnivorous and thanks to their powerful claws, they are able to prey on medium-sized mammals, such as sloths, porcupines and monkeys, as well as other birds.

Unfortunately, this splendid and imposing bird of prey is among the species close to extinction according to the International Union for Conservation.
The harpy eagle is in fact threatened by deforestation which is gradually destroying its natural habitat: at the moment there are only about 50 thousand specimens of harpy all over the world and in Brazil it is almost completely disappeared.
