A big fire broke out this afternoon in a stable in the countryside between Hasselt and Zwolle, in the Netherlands where there was a breeding of dogs, twelve of which were killed by the flames, while 5 managed to escape thanks to the intervention of the firefighters who are now struggling to put out the flames and prevent them from affecting the asbestos slabs that make up the roof of the neighboring building.

A cloud of black smoke rose into the air, visible from miles away. The firefighters promptly intervened to try to tame the flames to prevent them from spreading also in the surrounding house, they managed to rescue 5 dogs, while for the other 12 there was nothing to do.

The causes are still uncertain and fortunately, at the moment the release of asbestos has been avoided since the sheets of the roof of the burned shed have recently been replaced, unlike the adjacent barn to which the fire was unable to reach thanks to the prompt intervention of the brigade, which turned out not to be easy:

“Because we need hands and even water is not easy in this rural area. Luckily we managed to keep the neighboring house and the shed with the asbestos sheets intact. And of course also to save five dogs ". Maurice Van Zoelen said he was the head of the fire brigade who intervened.

The images also released by the Dutch photographer Stefan Verkerk make the gravity of the situation that could prove even more disastrous:

Mayor Eddy Bilder also went to the farm to check the damage and support the residents kept at a distance due to asbestos and other possible dangerous substances.
