Even in Maine, it will be forbidden to sell cosmetics that have been tested on animals. This is the sixth US state to take a stand against this brutal practice

The list of American states that sell cosmetics tested on animals is growing. The Maine has just decided to follow the example of California, Nevada, Illinois, Virginia and Maryland, which have long since banned this brutal and outdated practice. The measure is contained in the new decree law n.1551, which was signed in recent days by the governor of Maine Janet Mills. The law clearly states that manufacturers cannot sell or offer to sell cosmetics that have been produced using animal testing. And anyone who violates the law faces a $ 5.000 fine.

Not only is the practice of testing cosmetic products on animals inhumane, but it is not necessary ”, - explains Vicki Daudera, member of the Environment and Natural Resources Commission in Maine. “Cosmetic companies have the ability to use existing ingredients with a history of safe use and can choose from a wide range of new non-animal testing methods. These new methods not only save the lives of animals, but also represent the best that science has to offer and can provide more relevant data for human exposure, ensuring cosmetics are safe.

The news was received with great satisfaction by the animal rights associations of the United States, in particular by the Humane Society.

With this decision, Maine has now joined the growing number of states that have taken action to end the unnecessary suffering animals endure to test cosmetics, '' said Katie Hansberry, director of the Humane Society of the United States Maine. - With many new methods of product testing, there is no need to harm animals for lipstick or blush. Thank you, Doudera for proposing this bill and Governor Mills for signing this important bipartisan legislation.

It is now well known that animal testing is a source of excruciating suffering (extensively documented) that could be avoided and that too often leads to their death. We hope that this terrible practice will be abolished all over the world!
