Coats and sweaters tied to street lamps, the idea of children to warm the homeless (PHOTO)

Remember the story of the street lamp-tied coats by children in Halifax, Canada, so that the homeless of the city had something to warm themselves with? Well, that gesture of spontaneous solidarity seems to have made school, inspiring a similar experience in Florida, carried out with altruism and joy by a group of children and their parents.

Remember the story of the coats tied to the street lamps by the children of Halifax, Canada, so that the homeless in the city would have something to warm up with? Well, that gesture of spontaneous solidarity seems to have made school, inspiring a similar experience in Florida, carried out with selflessness and joy by a group of children and their parents.

We are ad Apopka, a small town north of Orlando, where winters are much less severe than in Canada, although between December and February, temperatures can drop to almost zero, especially at night. And those who live on the street, without a home or shelter, are obviously much more exposed to cold and bad weather than anyone else.

For this, children have decided to mobilize in favor of homeless: they collected a hundred sweaters and coats and tied them to the street lamps of the town, accompanying them with a note that reads: “I'm not lost. If you've been out in the cold, please take me to keep you warm. "

The idea of replicating the experience lived a few months ago by the children of Halifax came to a mother who was active in the parish, Jenny Tarr LeMieux, which involved her little girl's friends and their parents in both the collection and labeling of clothing, and the charity expedition along the streets of Apopka.

"The timing was fantastic." - he said Jenny - “The girls were able to observe from a short distance the people who found the clothes, read the ticket and then looked for the coat or sweater that was closest to their size. We all had a smile that went from ear to ear, because we knew that, for some, that day would be a little warmer. "

“My favorite part of all the preparation and distribution” - continues again Jenny - “was the collection of coats from friends and relatives and the involvement of the girls in writing the labels. It was a great way to get the children to actively participate in a project for the benefit of others and, at the same time, understand the importance of making random gestures of kindness. "

And, as happened to the children of Halifax, even those of Apopka were able to experience a truly different day, learning something more about generosity and solidarity and giving a smile and a little human warmth to those who do not have a home to return to.
