Vitiligo is a disease that can become disabling on a social level, in fact the person develops non-pigmented areas on the skin where melanin is completely lacking and which appear white. These can be more or less extensive and can be found in different parts of the body.
Imagine a child suffering from this condition, who is already uncomfortable with the obvious spots on his skin, and who is often teased at school for his appearance. This is what Carter Blanchard, 8, originally from Arkansas, United States, lives every day.
His vitiligo is very evident because it is also noticeable on his face and the situation is certainly not easy, Carter does not accept his problem and is often sad. Fortunately, a special meeting completely changed this child's mood and fate.
In fact, Carter found a dog experiencing the same condition as him and who managed to restore the joy of living. It is about Rowdy, a 13-year-old Labrador suffering from vitiligo and with conspicuous white spots just around the eyes like him.
In reality it was Carter's mother who discovered the existence of this special dog and despite the difficulties (the animal was in another state, Oregon) she managed to bring him to her son thanks to a donation of 5 thousand dollars. which allowed the transfer.
The experience was magical and healing for Carter to such an extent that Rowdy's mum and owner are trying to find ways to show these two "soul mates" more often thus helping Carter to grow his self-esteem and to be happy.
