At the age of 9 she donates her long hair to those who fight against cancer: Mattarella appoints her as Standard Bearer of the Republic

Mavì Borelli is only 9 years old and has received the title of Standard Bearer of the Republic, conferred by President Mattarella, for having donated his hair to those who fight cancer.

Don't store avocado like this: it's dangerous

At the age of 9 he had the honor of receiving the title of Standard Bearer of the Republic. Mavì Borrelli is a girl who lives in Crevalcore, in the province of Bologna, and is the youngest, together with another girl from Nola, on the list of 25 young people to whom yesterday President Sergio Mattarella awarded the prestigious certificates for having " distinguished as builders of communities, through their witness, their commitment, their courageous and supportive actions ".

Mavì had a gorgeous lock of long auburn hair, but last March she decided to cut them to donate to cancer patients who have lost their hair due to chemotherapy. This beautiful gesture did not go unnoticed by Mattarella who decided to reward her generosity with the following motivation:

For the solidarity shown to children and people with oncological disease, giving up his long hair to make wigs and donate them to those bald from the therapies.

Mavì cared a lot about her flowing hair, but this didn't stop her from "sacrificing" it to help someone else.

“From birth they never cut my hair. They were 80 centimeters long, and 70 I had them cut to donate. When I communicated the decision my parents were surprised but it was something I wanted to do. They will grow back to me, and mine was a spontaneous gesture that will serve to make wigs for boys and people who face that disease ”, the girl told BolognaToday.

To inspire the little Mavì was the successful series "Red bracelets", broadcast on Ra1, which tells the friendship born between some boys hospitalized, many of whom suffer from cancer. Seeing so many kids without hair, the little girl thought of sacrificing her hair to give a smile to those who suffer.

It was a spontaneous gesture, of which Mavì's parents are very proud:

“We didn't expect such a decision, especially given Mavi's age, but she was strongly convinced of this, it was a gesture she wanted to make, without waiting. And so after a while we talked about it with a hairdresser who directed us to those who take care of collecting donated hair, and to send it to the various companies that then make wigs for people who follow oncological treatments ".

Neither the child nor her parents, however, expected such an important recognition even from the President of the Republic. The little girl has also admitted that she feels some embarrassment now that she is receiving so many compliments. The news really took Giorgio Borrelli, Mavì's father by surprise:

“I had just gotten off my shift at the company when my cell phone rang and I saw that it was an unknown number, whose area code began with 06. I was dazed but I answered, and a woman said she was calling from the Quirinale. At first I thought of it as a joke, then they said they wanted to appoint my daughter and my heart filled with pride. We did not expect all this fuss, and we are happy for her ”.

The wonderful gesture of this 9-year-old girl confirms that we really have a lot to learn from children and from their spontaneous generosity, the authentic one that expects nothing in return.

Thanks for your example, little big Mavì!
