    A major project with a triple purpose: to honor the memory of the victims of the pandemic, to thank health professionals and to preserve ecosystems degraded by deforestation. 





    In Brazil so far more than 210 people have lost their lives due to COVID-19. In addition to the health crisis, the country has to face the increase in the deforestation rate, more than 11 thousand km2 of the Amazon have disappeared in the last year alone. Faced with this dramatic situation, the project was born Woods of Memory, which fights in the opposite direction with the aim of helping the environment by honoring the memory of the victims of the pandemic.

    Since December, bereaved families and various organizations, with the support of the Atlantic Forest Biosphere Reserve and the Atlantic Forest Restoration Pact, have begun planting trees to honor the memory of their loved ones and thank the system staff. health by supporting the fight against deforestation. The goal is to plant 5 trees in memory of the lives lost due to COVID-200 in Brazil by 19 June, World Environment Day.

    “Many of the families supporting the project have not even had the opportunity to bury loved ones. Through the act of planting a tree, relatives deposit a lot of their love and nostalgia ”, explains Luis Paulo Ferraz, one of the coordinators of the project.

    “A tree for me is a symbol of eternity. My daughter's name is engraved here, I know I'll come back and see him grow up ”, José Oliveira Costa confesses in tears, who lost his 44-year-old daughter Evandra, who died of covid-19 in November.



    The Boschi della Memoria campaign, in addition to trying to transform this moment of sadness and devastation into hope, also marks the beginning of the decade of restoration of the 2021-2030 ecosystem declared by the UN.
