Whale beached in Rosignano (Li): the massacre of cetaceans continues in the Tyrrhenian Sea:

A fin whale over 17 meters long and about 2,5 tons in weight was beached in the early afternoon yesterday in a small bay on the coast of Rosignano, a province of Livorno. This was revealed by a note from the Arpat Toscana, which also reveals how, in reality, the specimen had already been sighted along the coasts of San Vincenzo on 17 March, before the stormy sea definitively rendered the carcass.

A fin whale over 17 meters long and around 2,5 tons weight beached in the early afternoon yesterday in a small bend of the coast of Rosignano, a province of Livorno. This was revealed by a note from the Arpat Toscana, which also reveals how, in reality, the specimen had already been sighted along the coasts of San Vincenzo on 17 March, before the stormy sea definitively rendered the carcass.

The find comes at close range with the death of dozens and dozens of dolphins for reasons not yet established, precisely in the Sanctuary that should protect them. To date, at least 85 carcasses have been found on the coasts and, among environmentalists, there are those who speak of possible military experiments or dangerous research conducted by oil companies. For the Ministry of the Environment, however, it is much more likely that it is bacterial and viral infections. But is there a link between the death of these cetaceans?

For now it is certainly not known. The fact is that among toxic cans, ships of poisons, shipwrecks of cruise boats, arsenic and mercury from well-known chemical industries in the area, the pollution of one of the most important sea areas for biodiversity is putting a strain on mother nature. Returning to the unfortunate whale, the team of veterinarians of the University of Padua, on behalf of the Minister, is already traveling to reach the beach of Rosignano by today and perform a sample of suitable tissue, and then carry out routine analyzes, including necropsy of the animal.

The Tuscan Cetacean Observatory of the Tuscany Region has, in fact, promptly informed the Ministry of the Environment and the Sea in compliance with what is the national recovery network and ARPAT, in support of the OTC, is coordinating the recovery intervention, collaborating with the Coast Guard and the Councilor of the Municipality of Rosignano in order to evaluate what to do. They are also provided other types of analysis by the University of Siena and the Zooprophylactic Institute of Pisa.
