A new species of frog has been identified by scientists in the New Guinea rainforest: it is the chocolate frog, characterized by a bizarre brown complexion.

Researchers from Griffith University in Australia have announced the surprising discovery of a new frog species never seen before. The frog in question, Litoria Mira, is a small animal that lives in trees and was quickly nicknamed 'chocolate frog' due to its bizarre brown color. Australian researchers discovered it in a swampy area of the rainforest in New Guinea.

The species closest to the littoria look and the Australian green tree frog (Ranoidea caerulea) - explains phylogeneticist Paul Oliver of Griffith University. - The two species are very similar, except for the color: while the first is characterized by a bright green, the new species is characterized by a delicious chocolate color. Of course there are other small differences as well, such as a small purple spot in the eyes of the newly discovered frog, or the slightly smaller size of the new specimen.

The area where this frog lives is particularly inhospitable to humans, due to a too hot climate and the presence of crocodiles and other dangerous animals (such as malaria mosquitoes) as well as the absence of roads and other infrastructure - this it would explain why the species remained unknown for so long. Its scientific name, View, derives precisely from the surprise that scientists felt at the time of the discovery.

And, indeed, New Guinea still holds many surprises from the point of view of fauna and flora. There are many animal and plant species that coexist in this environment which has remained at a still primordial stage. Understanding the biodiversity of this region can be helpful in understanding the history and origins of Australia's unique wildlife.
