It is named after Shep, a 10-year-old beagle whose gentle spirit prompted owners to open a place to help others like him: abandoned, unwanted and alone.
Opened in April 2019, it is located in a renovated old home on 4 acres in Independence, Missouri.
“We are a small private shelter that focuses on senior dog care. We hope to find new families for our dogs, but this is often difficult for the old folks, so if we don't, we will be their permanent and loving home, ”the founders explain.
The quality of life of the dog is the highest goal of Shep's Place: play, freedom of movement, care and human interaction.
“We believe our silver-skinned friends deserve to enjoy their lives and be themselves for as long as they have left to live. The goal is to provide a home for the dogs, to remove them from the kennel and leave them free to move, play in the yard or sleep, as they prefer ”.
To function, however, Shep's Place asks for help: there is a need for volunteers and monetary support.
We too can lend a hand by donating through the special page on GoFundMe created for Shep's Place.
Everyone loves a puppy. How can you, they are adorable! But even older dogs need the love and affection of a human being, someone to take them for a walk, to cuddle them, to make them feel safe. It would take a thousand places like this around the world!
