On February 21, armed thieves broke into Javier's home. It happened shortly after noon in Des Moines, United States. The boy hears a noise and looks through a window on the first floor, seeing an unknown car.
Shortly thereafter the sliding door is destroyed. Rex starts running downstairs, sees the thugs and starts barking.
“I heard a boy scream, 'the dog bit me, get the dog'” says Javer.
Soon after, the boy calls 911 and hides in the closet. But shortly after he sees Rex arrive bloody. THE thieves they run upstairs, turning the bedrooms upside down. They then arrive in the room where Javier is hiding. At that point, Rex comes out with what little strength he has left and throws himself against the thieves in return. four pistol shots.
By the time the police arrived, the thieves have already fled. Rex is immediately carried away in very serious conditions, shot in the neck and legs and receives medical attention at BluePearl, an emergency pet hospital, in Renton, approximately 10 miles northeast of Des Moines. To save him, however, a series of expensive surgeries are required.
The joy of the dog's survival is followed by the worry of not having the money to pay for medical bills. But the story of Rex and Javer immediately made the rounds of the web. It didn't take long for family, friends and community to open a fundraiser for "The Hero Dog".
“Today we have witnessed the most beautiful and unconditional love. Rex the hero, a member of our family, risked his life and soon has gunshots while protecting his human best friend, his brother while their home was vandalized while they stayed inside. Please, our family cannot allow Rex to leave, we have to fight as much as he did, who gathered his last strength by protecting my nephew " said Javer's aunt.
Thankfully, Rex successfully passed his prime on Friday surgery and Sunday is returned home with Xavier.
