In short, the panda ant is neither a panda nor an ant. It is a wingless wasp that lives in Chile. Its name is also due to the fact that wasps and ants are closely related. This particular-looking wasp, which at the sight is almost tenderness, is actually able to sting in a really painful way.

The appearance and colors of this wasp serve to warn other animals to stay away. His sting would be especially dangerous for cows. These wasps can be found mainly in Chile and Argentina.

They live alone, not swarms. They are part of the Mutillidae family, which collects over 3000 species of wasps, including the velvet wasps.

The female specimens are wingless while the males are winged. Predators soon learned to steer clear of panda wasps because they realized that panda wasp stings can be very painful.

Panda wasps are also known as “ant cow” because they can annihilate animals much larger than themselves, such as cows, with few stings. Not much is known about these little wasps yet. They live mainly in coastal areas.

They are very small as their length usually reaches a maximum of 8 millimeters. However, the males are larger than the females. These are rare animals that we will hardly see live in life, but we can admire them in photography.
