    Nola dropped us off Sunday November 22 at the San Diego Zoo after being euthanized. On November 13th she had been subjected to an operation which unfortunately followed serious complications. Nola had been operated on for an infection.

Faced with these facts we can only regret how such extraordinary creatures are disappearing due to man and in this case essentially due to poaching.

    Nola's death brings northern white rhinos even closer to extinction. The San Diego Zoo has launched an appeal on his own Facebook page . asking everyone to share their memories with Nola and their condolences.

    Nola's disappearance comes just four months after the death of Nabire, another northern white rhino who lived in the Czech Republic, in a local zoo. As for white rhinos, the world can still count on the presence of a few thousand southern white rhinos, a species which, however, has already been included among the animals almost at risk by the IUCN.


    The San Diego Zoo in recent years had already hosted some northern white rhinos, unfortunately already disappeared: Noti died in 2007, while Anagalifu left us last year.
