If you wash the shower curtain by hand, you can rub it directly with one sponge soaked in vinegar the problematic points. To facilitate the operation of manual mold removal, you can leave it in soaking the affected part of the shower curtain in water and vinegar for a few hours, before moving on to its complete cleaning, rubbing the entire tent with water and vinegar first, and then with natural soap.

The curtain must be rinsed thoroughly and hung out to dry, preferably in the open air, so that the anti-mold effect can last longer. This treatment should be carried out every time you notice mold appearing and at least once a month for the prevention of its formation. To facilitate hand washing of the shower curtain, you can immerse it in a basin or tub filled with hot water, in which to add four tablespoons of natural Marseille soap grated and three tablespoons of sodium bicarbonate or percarbonate (a non-polluting whitener).

Stubborn mold stains, which may still be present after the soaking steps, can be treated with del lemon juice, to be rubbed on them using a rough sponge. A final remedy for the removal of mold, in order to facilitate the hand washing of the curtain, is the sprinkle baking soda on the stains, to be left on for a few hours before rinsing and drying. The baking soda treatment can also be applied before washing in the washing machine.

In the washing machine

Some shower curtains can be machine washed. In this case it is possible to add in the wash basket half a glass of vinegar, in which ten drops of tea tree essential oil have been dissolved. Washing in the washing machine, combined with the use of natural anti-mold substances, should lead to the desired result.

If the awning is not completely clean, proceed also with the hand washing explained above. The temperature of the washing in the washing machine must not be higher than 30 degrees. In order not to risk ruining the curtain, remember to avoid or limit the spin phase. Machine washing is especially recommended for fabric shower curtains and can be preceded by immersing the curtain in a basin containing water and coarse salt, to facilitate the removal of mold stains.

Anti-mold spray

In addition to the essential oil of tea tree, among the anti-mold remedies, theessential oil of lavender. Both of these essential oils can be used for the preparation of an anti-mold spray, to be used for cleaning the tent by hand and to be applied on critical points and left to act until the presence of mold has reduced. To obtain an anti-mold spray it is necessary to mix a glass of water ed a glass of vinegar, adding to it 10 drops of lavender essential oil e 10 drops of tea tree essential oil. In this way a liquid solution is obtained which can be sprayed both for the removal of mold - to obtain which it must be left to act for a few hours - and for preventive purposes.

Prevent the formation of mold

To prevent the formation of mold on the shower curtain, in addition to applying the anti-mold spray indicated above, you can use a simple solution of water and coarse salt (3 tablespoons for each liter of water) in which to periodically immerse the shower curtain before washing it or to apply with a spray. It is always advisable let it dry the shower curtain outside.

This is something that should be done every time after a shower. The formation of mold on the curtain is in fact normally due to water stagnation, the permanence of humidity in the bathroom and the lack of ventilation in the room. For this reason, after a shower, if it is not possible to roll out the curtain in the open air, you should at least remember to keep the bathroom window open for a while and remove excess water remained on the shower curtain with a suitable cleaning cloth to absorb it.
