With the sharp drop in temperatures that we have witnessed in recent days, many homes have already rekindled radiators after the summer break. Before putting them back in business for the winter, however, that would be a good thing provide for a thorough cleaning of these instruments, which during the summer have collected mites and dust: the latter, in addition to not allowing the heater to function correctly (with consequent waste of energy), can cause allergies in those who breathe the warm air of the house.
Fortunately, there are many “grandma's tricks” useful for cleaning our radiator correctly and naturally, in order to ensure warmth for the winter without the problems associated with the presence of dust in the air. In particular, the knot method it is perhaps the one that best allows the cleaning of the internal cavities between the elements of the radiator.
Putting it into practice is really easy: just get a electrostatic cloth attracts dust and tie a knot at one corner (as seen in the cover photo). At this point, you will have to insert the cloth in the gap between two of the radiator elements, holding it by the knot (which must therefore remain outside, facing us) and sliding it along the entire length of the radiator. When the cloth comes out from the base of the radiator, it will have collected all the dust present quickly and easily!
If an electrostatic cloth is not available, a microfibre sock can be used as an alternative: this, similar to the cloth, captures and traps the dust. Here is a creative and useful way to “recycle” old tights that we no longer wear: before the winter season, let's use them to clean the radiators (the technique is the same).
