A new species of violin spider was discovered in Mexico by a group of scientists.
The arachnid was found by researchers from the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) in Tlaxcala, a city located in central Mexico.

Scientists initially believed it was a specimen of a similar species already known, present in the same area. From molecular biology studies, however, it emerged that it was a different species e hitherto unknown.

The spider, which has been given the name of Loxosceles tenochtitlan, hides inside furniture, fabrics and clothing and in places where it can find insects to feed on.
In urban areas, the optimal conditions for the survival of this spider can be created: it is possible to meet him eg in waste or in warehouses in which objects are accumulated.

The newly discovered species is quite shy and avoids contact with humans, but if it feels threatened can attack man to defend himself.
The bite of this arachnid is very characteristic, as it initially creates a purple sore surrounded by a pink halo.

The bite is not lethal, but causes necrosis of surrounding tissues causing injuries that can extend up to 40 centimeters. However, the effects of the venom of Loxosceles tenochtitlan can be counteracted by administering an antidote.

prevent the presence of the spider in homes, the only way is to take care of hygiene, keeping the domestic environments clean and tidy.

Maybe Mexicans won't be happy to be able to meet the new spider in their beds or find one inside their shoes, but with this new discovery, the Mexico today it is considered the nation with the highest variety of violin spider species in the world: on the whole planet there are in fact 140 species of these spiders, of which 40 in Mexico, equal to about 30% of those present globally.
