Don't store avocado like this: it's dangerous

I tubes of toothpaste they are among the most difficult materials to recycle as they are made from a mix of plastic and aluminum. Around 20 billion of them are sold each year around the world, which is a huge pollution problem.

To reduce the environmental impact of these products used daily, Colgate-Palmolive has launched on the Australian market the first tube of 100% recyclable toothpaste. The new tube, which can be placed in the plastic container, is the result of five years of research.

Someone may also object that this is yet another case of greenwashing by a multinational, but in addition to designing the new package, the company has also decided to share the technology patent with its competitors to produce less polluting waste and protect the planet. The new tube in the Smile for Good line is made of high-density polyethylene (HDPE), the same plastic used for milk bottles and caps.

“Making toothpaste tubes part of the circular economy will help keep plastic productive and eliminate waste. There is a lot of work to be done, but the launch of Colgate Smile for Good is an important first step "- said Simon Petersen, CEO of Colgate-Palmolive South Pacific -" Colgate-Palmolive wants all tubes of toothpaste to follow the same. recycling standards we have achieved, so we openly share our technology with competitors in the toothpaste industry and with manufacturers of all types of tubes ”.

The multinational has set itself the goal of creating 100% recyclable or compostable packaging by 2025.

The Colgate Smile for Good line includes the two Smile for Good Protection toothpastes, Smile for Good Natural White (with 99,7% of the ingredients of natural origin) and the Colgate Bamboo Charcoal toothbrush, totally made of bamboo and therefore biodegradable.

But be careful, because not all that glitters is gold. Not all Colgate toothpastes are reliable and free from substances hazardous to health. If among the best we find the Colgate Smile for Good line, the same cannot be said of the Complete 8 Extra Fresh and Max Fresh Cooling Crystals toothpastes, which were classified as "inadequate" in one of the latest surveys conducted by the German magazine Öko- Test on a sample of 60 toothpastes, commonly sold in supermarkets and pharmacies.

We recommend to reduce to zero the plastic in the packaging to resort to solid toothpastes or even better to self-produce your own toothpaste
