He crossed the highway, a large six-lane thoroughfare, causing a rear-end collision. Then he drove one of the cars, oblivious to almost causing a disaster. It is the adventurous, luckily with a happy ending, which saw a koala as the protagonist, in Australia. The photo of the animal behind the wheel is going around the world.

It looks like a retouched photo, incredible, yet it really portrays a koala ready to ride. It happened yesterday along the South Eastern Freeway when in the early hours of the morning, the fearless koala crossed the highway. To avoid hitting him, certainly causing his death, motorists suddenly stopped causing a rear-end collision involving six vehicles.

Fortunately, both the people and the koala did not suffer serious injuries but then something else happened.

The story

Ms Tugwell was driving down the freeway when she noticed the cars were slowing down and she was about three cars after the accident.

“I was thinking about my own business and the next minute I see a little koala between the cars and the concrete barrier, right next to me,” he told ABC Radio Adelaide. "Then I saw a lady running after him with a blanket trying to catch him."

The two women managed to corner the koala before wrapping it in a jacket and putting it in the back of Ms Tugwell's car.

“The trunk is open to the rest of the car, the seats were all up, I wasn't prepared to save a koala,” she said.

The woman immediately contacted the Adelaide Koala Rescue who asked to take her unusual travel companion to the service station at the end of the highway where a volunteer would be waiting for him. When she arrived at her destination she checked how the koala was doing.

“I peeked out of the seat and pulled back my jacket and looked at me all cute, sweet and innocent,” said Ms. Tugwell. “I was sitting in the driver's seat waiting for the rescuer to arrive, and then someone started patting me on the shoulder. It was the koala trying to get between the headrest and the window on my seat. "

At that point, the animal got comfortable holding on to the steering wheel. "When do you happen to see a similar scene again?" the driver must have told herself, so she immortalized her amused face.

Waiting for him and bringing him home, in nature, was Ann Bigham.

“The koala was in really good condition, luckily it wasn't hit and thanks to the rescuers it was kept safe,” he said.

In any case, Australian authorities have urged motorists not to stop on the motorway to try to save animals on their own. It is always better to call the emergency number and report their presence.
