Vivisection: 40 beagles released from a Spanish laboratory see the sun for the first time

Sweet eyes and very frightened at the sight of the sun and the grass: they are those of the 40 beagles who grew up in a laboratory in Spain and arrived in Los Angeles last week, freed thanks to the Freedom Beagle project, which will now try to give them a new life through a adoption program.

Sweet eyes and very frightened at the sight of the sun and the grass: they are those of the gods 40 beagle grew up in a laboratory in Spain and arrived in Los Angeles last week, freed thanks to the project Freedom Beagle, who will now attempt to give him a new life through an adoption program.

On the one hand, very sad images, because they make us realize how much it is unnatural the life made to do animals intended for laboratories: it seems impossible for a beagle to be so frightened when the cage is opened and allowed to go out into the open air, look at the sky, run on a lawn. Yet this is what happened to the release of these poor animals, which took place thanks to the intense work of the group. Animal Rescue Media Education (ARME), which takes care of the care and rescue of suffering animals.

Images that, however, on the other hand, give us hope that there is someone who every day works to restore dignity to these beagles and to try to give them a more peaceful and full of affection life. A different life from the one spent in cage and without seeing the light of the sun: "They told us that they lived one per cage in rooms of 10 beagles, but they never had any interaction between them", says the spokesman of the ARM project, Gary Smith. "They have been in a kennel since they were rescued about a week ago, but other than that they have spent most of their lives locked up."

Here is therefore explained the terror in those eyes, at the mere sight of such a large space where you can stand, run, walk, play. In short, everything a dog should normally do. But not some beagles, which are unfortunately chosen for experiments and laboratory tests of pharmaceutical, cosmetic and household products. The reasons lie precisely in the characteristics of this breed, docile, friendly, confident in man and, incredible to say, inexpensive to feed.

Un final destination marked for many of them, therefore: in the last operation of ARME, the largest carried out so far, they were in fact saved well 72 dogs, 32 of whom have already found an adoptive family in Europe. And as early as June, the organization had given a new life to 9 other beagles, filming the first steps outside. This is because many laboratories, once the poor dogs are no longer needed for research, contact ARME directly to try to give them a new home.

Ma is all this really necessary? The debate is delicate and always open: on the one hand we appeal to search and the importance of studying new ones therapies for often serious pathologies, which need to be tested on something other than man before being put on the market. On the other hand, it is thought that it could be done without and that it could be sought methods alternative for testing. Not to mention the unnecessary suffering of beagles in cases of experiments for cosmetics or detergents, which we could easily do without.

In many cases, for example, it would be enough for us to boycott the companies that carry out these tortures first, choosing products not tested on animals. There are many and in all sectors. THU find complete lists, compiled by PETA, of companies that declare that they do not carry out animal testing for their products and of those who instead perform them. There awareness of our purchasing and consumption choices is always a good first step towards a different world.
