What's a weasel doing on a woodpecker? This extraordinary image taken by amateur wildlife photographer Martin Le-May caused a lot of discussion with ornithologists around the world and social media users. Is it a hoax? Is it photoshop?
No, it's all true and it is a rare case of in-flight combat. The image of the bird 'ridden' by his predator was taken in Hornchurch town park, Essex, Great Britain, where he had gone with his wife Ann. After hearing the squawking, he saw therebird with the small mammal on its back and took a series of photographs as the strange couple walked across the green lawn.

When the bird landed next to him, the weasel was distracted and the woodpecker jumped at the opportunity to escape, flying over the trees out of sight. In short, no doubt. It is only one amazing photo taken in the right place at the right time, one of those that can only be done once in a lifetime.
But many they questioned its veracity, including the American evolutionary biologist Dan Graur, who believed that the uniform blurred background was pure Photoshop. Meanwhile, the Internet was quick to locate the potential meme of photography, e l’hashtag #WeaselPecker (weasel-woodpecker) was a trend on Twitter.
