The thirty swans, as explained by the French National Office of Hunting and Wildlife (ONCFS), died due to a bacterium that developed in their intestines due to poor nutrition.
According to the investigations of the French Bird Protection League (LPO), bread would have been the cause of everything because this type of bacterium develops in bread that comes into contact with water, as the same association explains on Facebook, explaining the because of the sudden death of the swans.
“Wildlife does not need human help to feed itself. Swans and ducks are predominantly herbivores. If you really want to feed them, opt for cooked corn, green salad or wheat, ”writes the LPO on Facebook.
After this death, other clearly visible signs will be installed to safeguard wildlife and to remind everyone that bread must never be given to these animals.
Why does white bread kill birds?
Geese, swans, ducks and birds should never be fed white bread. Perhaps you will have occasionally seen waterfowl with the so-called 'ala d'angelo', a deformation of the wings mainly due to dietary imbalances such as excess of proteins, deficiency of vitamins (D, E) and mineral salts (manganese) which lead to a delayed development of the cartilages of the wings.
According to experts, this deformation cannot be cured, but only prevented with a correct diet from birth that does not include excess sugars and carbohydrates.
Therefore, the next time you meet a swan, never throw bread into the water, as this simple gesture could cost them their life.
