They killed her puppy in front of her eyes to punish her commitment: the woman taught sports to girls and girls in Afghanistan
He is about to end up run over, his mother saves himLast Friday Sahba Barakzai went out with her seven month old husky, Asoman, and his family to take a walk in the woods just outside Herat, in the Afghanistan West.
The excursion unfortunately turned into a tragedy, when a group of unidentified men approached the family and shot the puppy of Sahba, killing him.
The killers who made this terrible and cruel act told Sahba that a woman cannot have a dog.
To break the news is the BBC, through the testimony of Sahba's sister, Setayesh. The woman fears that the killing of the beloved puppy has to do with the work of Sahba, a famous coach who has been teaching karate to the girls of Herat for 10 years, as well as having founded a cycling club for girls.
“We still don't know what their goal was, but we think it's his career to blame.
She was the first woman to start a club and these things are taboo, ”Setayesh told the BBC.
Setayesh explained that cycling in Herat is still seen as a scandalous thing for girls and that the community has not reacted well to the opening of the cycling club.
Sahba was used to threats, but she was determined to continue in her work, to foster women's emancipation.
Sahba's family had long been very worried about her but the killing of the dog literally shocked everyone.
“We were really scared. I've never been in such a situation before - it was terrifying for all of us. ”Setayesh said.
Poor Asoman, a husky whose name means "sky" because of his blue eyes, had joined the family just a few months earlier, but was clearly loved very much.
Last Friday the family was walking quietly with him, like every weekend, when suddenly a man approached and fired a direct blow to Asoman's chest.
Sahba rushed to Asoman screaming and begging not to shoot, but other men joined the former and fired more shots at the poor puppy. Nobody could do anything, Asoman died in Sahba's arms shortly thereafter.
The killers didn't even allow Sahba to take her puppy's lifeless body with her because, as a woman, she had no right to keep a dog.
Sahba did not report the incident to the police:
“I knew nothing was going to happen. Dozens of human beings are killed every day in the country and no one feels responsible, ”she told Khaama Press.
Now Sahba is trying to work through the loss of her beloved Asoman, but it won't be easy:
“The day I got Asoman, I googled how many years a dog can live and realized that a dog can live about 14 years.
I got mad when I learned that Asoman was only going to be with me for 14 years. I never thought my treasure would be killed after only 7 months ”.
Sahba resisted for years the heavy threats received, but after this tragedy, sadly she gave up.
They won: the woman has decided to close her sports clubs - a huge loss to her community - and to leave the country trying to cross the border into neighboring Iran, where she hopes to be safer.
