In these animal photographs, each pixel is one of them and the fewer there are, so the more blurry the image, the more endangered the species is.
They look like low quality photographs due to the pixels in evidence, in reality they are purposely composed of as many pixels as there are still living specimens of the immortalized animal species. So the fewer pixels there are, the more the animal is dying out.
It is a campaign entitled "WWF Japan - Population by pixel", created by the Hakuhodo C&D / Tokyo agency in 2018, which has recently re-emerged and gone viral.
It was conceived by the creative directors Nami Hoshino, Yoshiyuki Mikami and the designer Kazuhiro Mochizuki, whose work JJ Smooth 44 was then inspired by, adding other animals.
Really a brilliant idea to represent endangered animals, complete with numbers, in this way, because the message comes loud and clear!
