The whole truth about the (alleged) hoax of the circus elephant bathing in the sea in Calabria

On the run from the circus or accompanied by the guardians? This is the probably useless dilemma. The buffalo hunt arrives on time and even the elephant in the waters of Santa Maria del Cedro, in Calabria, ends up in the viewfinder.

On the run from the circus or accompanied by the guardians? This is the probably useless dilemma. The buffalo hunt arrives on time and even the elephant in the waters of Santa Maria del Cedro, in Calabria, ends up in the viewfinder. Not being able to deny, however, that an elephant was in the sea, the misinformation would be here that the pachyderm would not have escaped from the Orfei circus, but would have been accompanied by the guardians.

And who says it? A certain Andrea Marco Rivolta who is promptly taken up on Facebook by the Facebook page of the circus Amedeo Orfei (coincidentally) and who defends the circus performers who in animal welfare and to show how much they love the elephant, led him to do a quiet dip in the sea. Only to discover that another version is that the animal was brought there for promotional purposes (other than feelings of love).

Rivolta takes up our article and says he contacted the circus itself which denied that the animal escaped, but we would be surprised if the opposite is true: what circus could ever admit to an escape without running into legal consequences?

To give this version there is him and then there is Bufale.net who even speaks of a series of eyewitnesses. Which, however, he does not mention in the same article in which he accuses the other newspapers of disinformation and poor verification of information. We look at the case of testimonies we have others: people who were on the beach and who swear that the guardians were there, yes, but who arrived later to take the animal back and bring it back to the 'safe cage'.

So who should we believe? At the circus? In Revolt? To our eyewitnesses or to those of Bufale.net probably collected on social media? Because here everyone can have a say about him, but freedom ends when others are accused of making disinformation without then bringing 100% reliable testimonies. Can the circus keepers ever be the only credible witnesses? Doesn't the thought come for a moment that there is a conflict of interest? Can eyewitnesses be listened to? The versions, the facts say, are many and different.

But as far as the long post of Rivolta is concerned, the point that we did not like at all, is not the misquoting, but how much to assume that it is normal that an escaped elephant or not, takes a bath in the sea among the bathers screaming, laughing, filming, giggling, etc.

Here we are talking about an animal that after a hard training suffers further stress. And if he (rightly) got upset, what would have happened? A shot from a rifle and away? Does it seem normal to you?

Not to us. For the elephant and also for the safety and hygiene of the swimmers. Are we really convinced that the point is escape or not? And even if he had been accompanied there, what would it change? Indeed, the promotional purpose is perhaps even sadder than escaping and even letting him enjoy a freedom he will never have. In short, yet another attempt to transform animals into freak phenomena. And we are sure that you dear readers think exactly the same as we do because sometimes shouting at the hoax or misinformation is just a way to divert attention to the real problems: the malaise that animals live in the circus, whatever it is.
