There is good news from Australia after the devastating fires that killed 30 koalas: nine cubs were born in the Australian Reptile Park in New South Wales.
Of course, we would have liked to see them in the wild and in their natural habitat, but the birth of the baby koalas remains an extraordinary event anyway. As you recall, the fires had killed over a million animals. Much of those who survived have been moved to shelters and parks to safeguard the species: with entire forests burned, their lives hung by a thread, so much so that wildlife experts did not hide their fears.

"Unless efforts are multiplied, the koala is expected to become extinct long before 2050," they explained. But fortunately things are going differently. A couple of months ago Ash came into the world, the first puppy born after the devastating forest fires of 2019, which lasted until the beginning of 2020, now there are nine, those who saw the light between the end of July and the beginning of August.

Some koalas are lucky enough to be free in the Blue Mountains of southeastern Australia, but for now, as we said, the vast majority live in conservation centers.
