In India the elephants began to wear colorful sweaters woven by the women of the village. The temperatures in this period are very low, below the average, so you have to protect elephants from frost.

Women living in a village near Mathura's Wildlife SOS Elephant Conservation and Care Center began making the sweaters when the centre's insiders announced that temperatures would drop below freezing at night.

The center welcomes elephants abused, injured, sick and in need of care. The images taken on the spot show elephants wearing huge colorful sweaters to cover the back, hips and part of the legs.

Second Kartick Satyanarayan, founder of the animal recovery center, it is very important to intervene in this way to protect elephants in distress from freezing, as their health is already fragile.

"It's important protect elephants from the cold during this extreme winter, as they are weak and vulnerable to having suffered from numerous abuses that have made them susceptible to diseases such as pneumonia ”- explained Satyanarayan.

The cold also is likely to aggravate arthritis, a very common problem among elephants that the center takes care of. It currently houses 20 elephants who have been rescued from illegal captivity, mafia trafficking and the exploitation on the streets and in circuses, where they suffered abuse and extreme cruelty.

The center plans to host another 50 elephants to be rescued in 2017 in the hope of having new land available to expand the shelter.
