In Peru and Colombia, Animal Defenders International had taken away from illegal circuses 33 lions and lionesses in 2015-2016 who had spent their whole life in a cage to entertain humans between photos, circus exercises and whipping. But their life has changed!





    This is today one of the lionesses saved by ADI. Her name is Mahla and she was born and raised in a small circus cage where her mother Kiara, her brother Scarc and her aunt Amazonas were locked up, but now they enjoy their freedom, discovering the park.

    The action of the animal rights organization had been hindered several times by circus performers who, despite Peru and Colombia banning the circus with animals, organized shows in the poorest and most remote areas of the countries, moving very quickly to circumvent the law and escape from the controls of the authorities. . After nearly two years of investigations and complaints, ADI had managed to rescue over 100 animals, including 33 lions and lionesses who were first moved to a recovery center in the Andes and then embarked on the longest journey to Africa, the continent they belong to, even if they didn't know it yet.

    The 33 big cats live happily in South Africa, play with watermelons and have fun without any worries, spending the rest of their days at the Emoya Big Cat Sanctuary in Vaalwater in total freedom. This was in fact the only possible solution for animals that grew up in captivity and would not be able to survive outside a sanctuary if released into the wild.

    In fact, there are 5.000 unspoiled hectares at their disposal where you can fall asleep in the sun, walk on warm soil and play with their fellow men.
