He is about to end up run over, his mother saves him

It took years of petitions and demonstrations but in the end i 588 animals of the island-prison of Gorgona, intended for slaughter that was resumed 4 years ago, are save, the LAV, Anti Vivisection League reported, in a press release published on its website.

The prison slaughterhouse will stop working and will become a space for non-violence. Not all animals, including calves, pigs, rabbits, goats, sheep, chickens, horses, will be able to remain on site due to lack of sufficient space, about 450 will be sent to structures interested in hosting them elsewhere, while the others will be cared for by the inmates themselves. with a report program of the Chair of Penitentiary Law of the Bicocca University of Milan.

A dream that had already come true in the 90s when the slaughterhouse was closed and the island of Gorgona became a model of coexistence between humans and animals. Until, in 2015, it was decided to reopen the slaughterhouse, putting an end to the magic. An experience that had proved to be very useful from the outset from the point of view of coexistence in solidarity and the non-violent human-animal relationship. And which had also represented an opportunity for redemption and job training for the prisoners.

After the reopening there were numerous protests but it took years to get answers and now, finally, we have reached the definitive closure. Gorgona will thus return to being a prison island "of rights and a model of coexistence between humans and animals". A dream that comes true, as stated by the LAV President Gianluca Felicetti:

"Finally it is possible to realize a dream that was abruptly interrupted in 2015, a relational experience of solidarity coexistence, a real laboratory of good practices of nonviolent human-animal relationship that will also represent an opportunity for redemption and job training for prisoners, on one of the most beautiful islands in the Tyrrhenian Sea. The mayor Luca Salvetti, in this regard, stated:

“The cooperation between the Administration and the Circordariale di Gorgona is an important goal in terms of environmental enhancement and in the relationship between prisoners and animals. The concrete realization is the signing of this protocol, which gives way to a new path of rehabilitation of inmates in an ethical key. "

If the LAV contributed to the victory, it would never have made it alone, the credit goes to all those who collaborated to permanently close this place of death and suffering, such as the director of the prison Carlo Mazzerbo, some of the former prisoners , the Undersecretary of Justice Vittorio Ferraresi, the Guarantor of the prisoners Giovanni De Peppo and others. Really good news!
