He is about to end up run over, his mother saves him

For the first time in four decades, bulls do not run through the streets of Pamplona. Quick photos and videos of the deserted streets run on social media during the traditional feast of San Firmino suspended due to the coronavirus pandemic. For this year, the encierro spares the bulls forced into a wild ride and in the center there are numerous parades of associations that fight to protect these animals.

But this Monday there were no “chupinazo” from the local town hall (the launch of the rocket with which the celebrations begin), nor the authorities leaning on the balcony to shout the traditional “Viva San Fermín”, nor a square crowded with thousands of people.

The decision to block the feast of San Firmino: this is what had happened

The coronavirus also stops the Spanish running of the San Firmino bulls, which is held annually in Pamplona. This was announced by the city council itself. So after the bullfighting stops, the encierro also stops. We have talked about this show many times: the bulls are released through the streets of the cities and follow a very specific itinerary. Every year, we also give the bulletin of the injured: in 2019 already on 6 July, seven people had been gored by bulls and were in serious condition. Yet Pamplona links this race to the Spanish tradition and to the feast of San Firminio which also includes shows, concerts, as well as the encierro.

For the event, considered the country's cultural heritage, people arrive from all over the world and it is precisely for this reason, in view of the fact that the coronavirus emergency is not over yet and that probably also for the summer period there will be limitations, the Pamplona city council has decided to suspend the celebration of the festivities in 2020.

In an online press conference she was the deputy mayor Ana Elizalde Elizalde to announce that there will be no party on 6 July, underlining that many events in the world are suspended and that 'Pamplona could not be the exception ”. There was no shortage of complaints and displeasure from citizens and supporters of the race. Animal welfare associations, which have been asking for a stop to this practice for years, were happier.

We cannot say that we do not live what we feel …… because it is a spirit that is within all the people of Pamplona.
Even if this 6 July we will do it in a different way… .. We will live them because it is a devotion that crosses borders, problems and situations. # Volveremosaviajar pic.twitter.com/4S9OosYpWV

The Sanfermines did not celebrate in 1937 and 1938, due to the Civil War. Not even in 1978, when a student died following violent riots in the square. They were not celebrated even in 1997 for the ETA attack in which a director of the PP was killed. In 2020, for the fifth time, it will be canceled; this time for the pandemic that hit the entire planet.
