Their fate was already sealed. They would meet a fatal sting within hours. Kala e Keira, two dogs, who lived in a kennel of Atlanta, Georgia, waited a long time for someone to adopt them but no one had come forward. So they ended up in list of "guests" to be deleted. But a photo posted on the web saved them.
A volunteer from the association Angels Among Us Pet Rescue, saw them inside the cage with a frightened expression. Kala and Keira seemed embraced, as if they wanted to give each other comfort and aware of the fate that awaited them shortly thereafter.
The photo was posted on Facebook accompanied by a touching message and within a few hours it went around the world.
"I'm Kala. This is Keira. We are so scared here. The people who work in the shelters know that we are but they have just said that our end will come today, ”the post reads. “If no one saves us, someone take me away. I will watch her as she goes down the hall. She won't come back and I will cry. Then they will come for me and I won't be so brave. We comforted each other while we were here. She gave me hope. Now it's over ”.
Touching words, which not only moved web users but which spurred an Atlanta resident into action, who after seeing the ad, decided to adopt both Kala and Keira.
2 hours and 6 minutes have passed: this is the time taken since the association moved to help the two dogs.
“I'm safe. There are no words to tell you how much we are happy that these two best friends are safe and together ”.
For a story with a happy ending, however, there are many others that have less happy outcomes. May this hug remind us of the fate of so many other dogs that unfortunately don't make it.
