Nikolai Lukich Machulyak he worked in an Artel, or a cooperative of the Soviet Union, and went down in history for his strange friendship with a polar bear and his family.
Two years earlier, in December 1974, a local hunter had killed a bear after the animal ruined his tent. Nikolai Lukich Machulyak had found a puppy at the time and called him Masha.
Too small to hunt alone, the man had fed the bear until the spring of 1975, when the animal disappeared. A year later, they met again and the bear in the meantime had reached 150 kilograms.
Though frightened, Nikolai Lukich Machulyak had started feeding Masha again. But one day the man in Masha's lair finds a 300-pound bear with her cubs. Probably hungry, he had hunted little Masha to shelter his children.
What did Nikolai Lukich Machulyak do? This time too, instead of running away, moved by a compassionate spirit, the man left the food to the mother bear's family.
In the following months the story continued and there were many who saw the bear grow their cubs. But the upside of the coin was that the bear got too close to the country, running too many risks.
