Without the teachings of their parents they would not be able to survive in the forest. Fortunately, there is an association that deals with saving and rehabilitating the Bornean orangutans to teach them how to get by on their own.

International Animal Rescue is the reality that deals with saving the life of small orangutans and CNN has recently created a documentary in this regard, within the Great Big Story project.
The documentary shows how experts deal with orangutans to prepare them for life in the forest. In the documentary, program director Karmele Llano Sanchez explains that their job is to teach orangutans about survival.

Experts are concerned with saving the orangutans both because their habitat is disappearing and when they find cubs that are illegally kept in captivity.

One of the most telling examples is the story of Boyne, a small orangutan who was rescued from captivity when he was one year old and who was kept in the shelter until he could live alone in the forest.
In Borneo l’killing of orangutans is considered a real crime, but it is rarely punished. Many of the orangutans that come to International Animal Rescue have likely seen their mothers die in the forest. The association not only helps orangutans but also all animals that are in danger in the forests of Borneo or that have lived in captivity.
