A heartbreaking story, which demonstrates how animals have much more than human feelings. A story that he had already indignant in many for the terrible ways in which the male royal swan was found with his neck broken on the evening of May 3 and which now strikes right in his heart. In fact, after just over 48 hours, the body of the female mute swan was also found, her companion for 16 years, who literally let herself die of starvation, refusing to eat.
Also because she had been transferred in 2003 to this Recoaro lake from Lake Fimon just after the male mute swan had been killed exactly like today. But she had found a new partner 16 years ago and shared that pond with him, which has now become their home, every day. And this new evident pain he could not bear.
Left alone she refused to eat and on Sunday 5 May her lifeless body was also found. It was the mayor Davide Branco who recovered the bird from the water:
"You could see that he was sick, he didn't eat anymore and we feared it would end like this" he comments to Il Corriere del Veneto. “We will send the body to the Zooprophylactic Institute of Venice, as it was for the male. In this case, however, there is no doubt, the animal has let itself go. It is characteristic of this species, it often happens that the companions or the companions do not survive for long when one of the two dies ".
In the meantime, the investigations into the death of the male swan are continuing and in the next few days the official findings will be made available by the Zooprophylactic Institute to establish the causes with certainty and hunt down the vandal who committed the atrocious act.
If the results of the analysis confirm that the animal was killed, a complaint will be made for the killing of animals.
"Within the year this area will be covered by a video surveillance service, so that serious episodes like this do not happen again" concludes Branco.
The two swans were not the only ones in the park, in fact, in the lower lakes live other specimens that we sincerely hope will continue to swim beautiful and proud in their bodies of water.
