Spotted "bioluminescent" dolphins off the coast of Newport, which shine again thanks to the lockdown

    Spotted

Off Newport, California, a pod of dolphins swam at night in the bioluminescent waves created by plankton. The magical show in a video

Another beautiful sight, probably made possible by the positive effects of the lockdown on the environment, took place off the coast of Newport, in Calfornia. The protagonists are a pod of "bioluminescent" dolphins.

Patrick Coyne, of the Newport Coastal Adventure, a few days ago went out on a boat at night with the intention of resuming the spectacle of bioluminescence at sea. And his goal was perfectly achieved, as you can see from the video shared on Facebook which received almost 50 likes.

Patrick's amazement was double since, not only did he find the bright areas, but he also managed to capture a small herd of dolphins that swam inside leaving trails of blue light.

In fact, it is not the dolphins that create the special effect but the fluorescent phytoplankton, where the cetacean herd enjoyed swimming.

Probably the splendid visibility of the phenomenon is to be attributed, at least in part, to lack of human activity caused by the lockdown for the coronavirus. The reduction of pollution and the absence of boats and people in the water would have favored the propagation of luminous phytoplankton.

As Patrick pointed out in an Instagram post where he posted the video, the feat wasn't easy at all. Conditions must be absolutely perfect for bioluminescence to appear and allow an animal to swim in it so you can film it.

Well the "miracle" happened and it was really exciting:

“I never imagined I would have such an experience. It was truly one of the most magical nights of my life "

Last night was truly one of the most magical nights of my life. Capt. Ryan @lawofthelandnsea of @newportcoastaladventure invited me along to capture rare video of Dolphins swimming in bioluminescence. The first time I saw this actually filmed was a few months back while watching a Night on Earth documentary on Netflix. The second I saw that footage it became a dream of mine to one day capture something similar and that’s exactly what we did. This was by far the most challenging video I’ve shot for a number of reason. For starters the bioluminescence has sweet spots to where it shows up and then fades away so while on the water it’s impossible to just find it. Not only that but actually finding any type of animal in pitch black is just so ridiculously hard. Conditions have to be absolutely perfect for the bioluminescence to show up and to have an animal swim through it so we can film it. On top of all that just trying to nail the focus at such a wide aperture with something moving in the water was a nightmare. We were out for a few hours and on our final stretch back we finally had 2 Dolphins pop up to start the incredible glowing show. A few minutes later and we were greeted by a few more which was insane. I’m honestly still processing this all and I can’t thank @newportcoastaladventure enough for having me out because without them none of this would be possible. Be sure to check our their edit from last night as well! I hope you all enjoy this video. ——————————————————————————— Shot on a Sony a7Sii with a Rokinon 35mm Cine DS T1.5 Len. Always Patrick a few days earlier had also managed to resume a beautiful bioluminescent wave.

The phenomenon of bioluminescence was also immortalized a few days ago on the beaches of Acapulco.
