Singer Cher cries for joy: Pakistan's

The loneliest elephant in the world will be rescued from Islamabad's Murghazar Zoo. Pop icon Cher, who had stood up for him, happily celebrates the news

He was regularly chained for several hours a day. His head rocked incessantly, displaying stereotypical and neurotic behavior. Held him alone for nearly 10 years.

They called him "the loneliest elephant in the world", but now he will finally be released from the Murghazar Zoo in Islamabad, thanks to a May 21 ruling by the Pakistani High Court.

Pop icon Cher, who has supported her rescue for four years and made her story known globally, cheers to the news, saying she can't hold back her tears.

"Kaavan's pain and suffering must end by transferring him to an appropriate elephant sanctuary," the court wrote in its ruling.

The whole world had mobilized for this pachyderm, sending petitions to the Pakistani government. The terrible photos showing the elephant in unspeakable conditions, alone and often chained, had made the rounds of social media.

Kaavan first arrived in Pakistan at the age of 1, he was just a puppy, as a gift for the leader of the country at the time.

After the death of his partner Saheli in 2012, he had never again been able to enjoy the company of his fellows.

Now his release will give him the opportunity to live life free in a sanctuary and inserted in a social group.

Pop star is said to be incredibly grateful that her efforts, and those of other users, have paid off.

“We just learned that Kaavan is free. He is so exciting that I have to sit down, ”he tweeted.
