Some lions of the Blair Drummond Safari Park, in Stirling in Scotland, found themselves in front of a monkey that had managed to enter their area. Obviously the animal was attacked and killed by the felines and the shocked visitors said they were traumatized by the undoubtedly violent scene. But isn't it shocking that a group of lions is locked up in a safari zoo?

You probably know what a savari zoo is but in case you have never heard of it, we will explain it to you briefly. It is a large area where various wild animals such as lions, giraffes, elephants, etc. are found. that visitors can admire comfortably from their cars by taking a tour inside the zoo that reproduces (or rather tries) the habitat of the different animals.

In one of these safari zoos, a Barbary ape (Macaca sylvanus), an endangered animal, which had managed to escape from its enclosure gaining freedom, unfortunately found itself in the wrong place: the lion's den. Here, inevitably, the small animal was attacked and killed by the felines who saw their territory invaded.

Visitors present at the time were shocked and stated that the poor monkey's screams could be heard throughout the park.

After a while, one of the caretakers arrived to try to hide the body of the Barbary ape from the public by putting a truck on top of it. But one of the lions managed to grab the monkey from under the vehicle and run away with its prey, which only after a long time was finally recovered.

“We had hoped for a happy day with our little boy, but we ended up having to explain to him what happened,” said one family.

Certainly a gruesome scene but it is the law of the jungle, we could say, and the nature of the lion. Visitors were equally shocked that these animals are locked up in a safari zoo instead of living free in their habitat.

This also needs to be explained to the children.

The zoo safari, as was inevitable, however apologized for what happened.

“This tragic event is deeply felt by the teams involved who take care of the animals around the clock. We are taking it extremely seriously. The safety of our visitors and the safety and care of our animals is our top priority. The incident in the lion enclosure has never happened before and we share the shock and concern that this has happened ”.
